Thoughts after Trip from Tokyo

Our company has 3 exhibitions about new characters, new product and project every year. The June one should be a small one though still bigger than the Sep one as it includes some Christmas stuff. Especially for the 35th anniversary of Hello Kitty this year, we got a lot to display for the anniversary and the exhibition is far more colorful than before as we got the 5 colors theme for the big ribbon Kitty this year. This time I was sent for some animation broadcast discussion with both internal and external parties. It is a new try for me and hope I could handle it as this is more like a new area which have developed for so many years that outsider could not really handle it well if you are not into the culture and talking in their jargons, and most of all, of course, the connection is so important though it’s not exactly the same as the showbiz type! Afterall, the Japanese is still dominating the market cuz animations are mostly developed there and could be adapted in many markets furthest in Italy! Hope this could help my work in this area. Having the chance to try out so many stuff is one of the thing I like for my job.

Talking too far from my thoughts about the title here. After going to this trip, I feel that people are really obsessed about MBA. I think I’m not in the position to criticise or what as I’m also taking one. My intention is really to fill my ignorance in business part mostly on the technical skills about marketing research analysis and accounting interpretation. I’m not sure though I understand most people are there to make connections. In our JV company, a big investor is a graduate from Harvard Business School, that sounds cool and people feel that it’s a proof of competancy as definitely having the ability to enter the the Business School in Harvard is already a honour. On the other hand, having this said, our headquarter got a very good candidate from Standard, also a MBA graduated with very very good connections and social status. What next? I got an acquintance with my tokyo colleague at the lift lobby, we start the conversation by having him asked me where I was from. Amused by his perfect pronounciation of ‘Ni Hao’, I forced him to let me know he’s actually native speaker and is working there by some special opportunity. As he speaks very good Japanese too, so I asked about his major, he said his major is MBA from the states. To my surprise, I have never thought about majoring MBA! What an answer, I think MBA really got a market in Japan especially from the States and that’s why so many foreigners are there! Perhaps the American people are really good at polishing and be confident as they look for whatever things, so MBA becomes a brand name and employers are just so obsessed about it. Perhaps a place like HK with Chinese in majority of more practical nature won’t just focus on the brand name stuff. I shouldn’t say all these, I really need to work hard in these 2 years to finish off my degree and see whatever I could do to make a bigger progress!





回歸校園

上星期日是MBA的第一個lecture,也是我最有興趣的International Accounting and Finance 的第一課。這個課程跟其他本地大學的full time / part time 課程有很大分別,除了學費比其他的便宜多出一半之外,這是一個遙距課程,顧名思義,本身的精髓就是學生自行分配時間自修,沒有面對面的教學。但因我所報的是倫敦大學與SPACE協辦的課程,幸運地有機會得本地lecturer 的’雞精’ (雖然外面對這詞的演繹很負面,但我沒有太大的反對,畢竟對一個沒有時間的成熟學生’mature student’ 來說,是十分有效率的)指導,那我們溫習時方向就比較清晰了。

那堂課由2時至7時,聽來好像很長,但其實很快過去,因要教的實在太多,於是lecturer 都很集中地把教材很用心地全部說了一遍,途中只有兩次十分鐘的’小休’,感覺很充實。下課時,因一直都沒有走動,感覺好像坐了5個小時飛機,有點麻痺,都怪日常太少運動啦! 回家後,到課程的portal看看有什麼更新及討論題目(當然也懷有想找到什麼貼示的心!),發現同學的提問已經是5,6 個chapter 後的問題,那時真的呆了一呆,再問自己,’我是否真的很慢? 不,是他們真的太快太好學了!’。我想,就算不能跟得上他們的步伐,也不能落後太多吧,都是要為自己打打氣!
